Testing... One, Two, One, Two… Testing...

Hello everyone! I've finally created a blog. I’ve had this planned for a long time already, but I didn't have the time to make it happen.

Basically, this blog was born from my desire to share with people some knowledge, ideas and experiences, not only about my lifestyle, my behaviors or practices, but also my diet.

My dad's from a small village in the countryside up north, my mum's from southern seaside city. I grew up with lots of different gastronomic and lifestyle traditions. I used to eat basically everything. And when I say everything is literally everything: every kind of sausage, animal's feet, organs, blood, body part... you name it! Any odd part, I used to eat it.

The thing is I've always wanted to become a vegetarian, but I was facing a sociocultural environment where the norm was to eat everything. Alongside that was my "addiction" to the flavours - I’m known for the way I eat: everything and with great pleasure. I usually say that I’d like for everyone to experience the great pleasure I do while I eat.

On account of that (wanting to adopt a vegetarian diet) and due to some changes I felt in my body (which I will talk about in another post), I decreased the amount of meat that I was eating over time, and one day I noticed that I hadn't been eating meat for over two months (there was a heat wave here in Portugal, and I don't know about you, but I can't eat warm food when it's hot).

That gave me motivation to continue and from that point on, I started my transition. (So “thank you” Climate Change!)I started with the meat, then the milk (which to be fair, I never liked and used to drink only with coffee) and eggs (it's been years and since then I only ate eggs three times, but the eggs were from chickens owned by two amazing people, who don't kill chickens just because they are not as productive as before), fish, pastry with dairy, and the last one (the only true difficult one) was cheese. Remember my family's gastronomic traditions? Well, we usually have at our table cheese that we eat before, during and after meals. I simply love cheese. I don't like chocolate and cheese for me is like chocolate for other people. Guess what I crave on my period... Hell yes, freaking cheese...

Anyways, six years after starting the transition, here I am, a strict vegetarian, for over two years, beating the odds regarding the social environment and traditions around which I grew up! Plus, I’m still living up to my reputation of being a good eater, eating everything with pleasure.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Alongside that, I’ve been always conscious about environmental issues, hence taking up the environmental field, which I will talk about in another time.

Anyways, I was always that odd person who had weird opinions and behaviours, but over the years I've come to realize that I'm not that weird after all. There are plenty of other people having the same worries and thoughts, and I hope that we can all connect and share with one another. Let’s join our weirdness together and make it into the normality!

My plan is to have at least a post per week. I'm still trying to sort things out and find the best day to post.

So sit back and relax. I hope you will enjoy of what’s to come!
